Cutting-edge technology behind Samsung’s largest TV screen

At the CES event last week, Samsung revealed ‘The Wall’ – the world’s first Modular MicroLED 146 inch TV – alongside their other advancements in display technology.

When showcasing their latest TV, Samsung’s President of Visual Display stated ‘we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences’.

In their press release, Samsung focuses on the Modular MicroLED technology that ‘delivers incredible definition, without restrictions to size, resolution or form.’

The report adds, ‘the screen can adapt to serve different purposes, such as creating a wall-size display for multiple spaces’.

Multiple spaces? I don’t think that Samsung’s TV will serve the average person’s living room.

Business Insider provides an explanation as to the benefits of Modular microLED technology. Each micrometer-scale LED is its ‘own source of light’ meaning that the TV ‘doesn’t need a backlight’. This allow users to ‘customize this set to be even larger (or smaller) than 146 inches.

The release date and price has not been revealed. Business Insider predicts that The Wall is going to cost a lot of money, ‘think tens of thousands of dollars’. With Game of Thrones Season 8 over a year away there’s not much time to save up.
