Source reveals that Apple plan to launch high-end headphones

Bloomberg announced that Apple are planning on entering the high-end headphone market after their AirPods have ‘been a surprise hit’.

The current plan for new headphones is that they will be ‘noise cancelling’ and over the ear, rivalling the headphones from the likes of Bose and Beats by Dr. Dre.

According to Research and Markets, the global earphones and headphones market is expected to grow at a ‘compound annual growth rate’ of 7.31 per cent between 2017 and 2023. This would mean that by 2023 the market would generate $20 billion in revenue.

Apparently, Apple have experienced challenges in the development of the headphones, but they plan to launch them as early as the end of this year. Bloomberg’s source did warn that ‘it’s possible Apple will redesign the headphones again before launch’ or even ‘scrap the project altogether’.

Bloomberg reported on Apple’s Other Product section, in which Apple’s new headphones would be part of. Currently this category includes AirPods, Beats Headphones (Apple acquired the company in 2014), Apple Watch, Apple TV and iPad accessories. This generated more then $5 billion in revenue in the first quarter.

While Techspot are sceptical about the fate of Apple’s high-end headphones, they reported that the AirPods are thought to be developed so they are ‘water resistant’ and have ‘a new wireless chi’ for Siri to work.
